Lebanon’s General Directorate of General Security has expressed its intention to prosecute Salafist Sheikh Omar Bakri Fostok, in the wake of controversial remarks he made on a chat show. Prosecutors have contacted broadcaster OTV for reels of the latest episode of its Think Twice programme, after the sheikh allegedly called President Michel Sleiman a “criminal.” The Salafist preacher also described Lebanese soldiers as “infidels” who should be slaughtered, even if they are Sunnis. The General Directorate has said the statements are punishable by law.
