Amman - Iman Abu Kaoud
Former Jordanian Justice Minister Ibrahim al-Jazi has called on authorities to track down the killers of four young men murdered in a brawl at the Al Hussein bin Tala University (AHU), last Monday.
Jazi and tribal elders discussed the matter with Interior Minister Hussein al-Majali, and Director of Public Security Tawfeeq Al Tawalba, in the southern city of Maan on Saturday evening.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jazi said that the government must arrest those responsible within the next ten days, describing the deadline as the basic demand of the victims\' families.
The politician claimed that crime had increased in the Maan Governorate over the last few years, and drug smuggling was on the rise too. He urged the authorities to tackle crime effectively and return the state to its previous prestige.
Following the meeting, Interior Minister Majali issued a press statement in which he vowed to detain and prosecute those responsible for the university deaths. \"Anyone found to be involved in the events at the Al Hussein bin Tala University will be prosecuted. No hand can tamper with the security of the country,\" he said.
Arabstoday understand that Jordanian MPs will reflect on events in Maan in Sunday evening\'s session at the Jordanian House of Representatives.
