Ramallah - Nihad Al Taweel
Israel has threatened to bring Lebanon back 50 years by destroying vital bridges if Hezbollah attacks Israel on behalf of Syria.
Hebrew website Central Issues said that the Israeli threat was reported directly to Lebanese president Michel Sleiman, through officials in the American administration on Sunday.
This public threat comes at a time when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is prepared to prevent Syrian weapons from reaching Hezbollah. The Syrian opposition had previously demanded that the international society prevent allies of the Syrian regime, Iran, and Lebanese Hezbollah from military involvement in Syria.
Netanyahu said that the Middle East is suffering with the Syrian conflict, adding that Israel is closely following the developments and changes, and is ready for any “expected scenario.”
The Israeli leader clarified that his government is working on guaranteeing the security of its citizens, branding Hezbollah “terrorists.”
