Gaza - Mohammed Habib
According to a report broadcasted on Israeli TV Channel 10, Israel is very concerned of repercussions if the Hamas-Fatah Palestinian reconciliation goes ahead.
The channel’s correspondent said the Israeli government fears the resumption of relations between the two groups in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The corresponded added that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will make positive decisions against Hamas, including the release of prisoners belonging to the movement in the West Bank and an end to political arrests. On the other hand the Gaza government will allow the return of Fatah leaders to Gaza Strip and to refrain from prosecution.
Inside sources have said the reconciliation announcement is just a matter of time now and could even be sooner than expected - especially after the decision of Mahmoud Abbas and Gaza’s Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh, to resume all events that had stopped for a period of six years.
Furthermore, Abbas allowed Hamas to organise its 25th anniversary in the cities of Nablus and Hebron, and in return Fatah will organise a huge celebration in Gaza for their upcoming anniversary early January next year.
