A political activist and tribal leader has been killed in the Iraqi city of Mousl, by an armed gang, a security source has revealed. The source said, “A number of armed people opened the fire on Sheikh Barzan Hazem in Ottoman Mousli Square, killing him.” According to the source, security forces cordoned off the area, and transferred the body to a forensics unit. Barzan was a prominent supporter of demonstrations in the Nineveh region, which called for security forces to be removed from the city. The governor of North Mousl was arrested on accusation of ties to Al Qaeda fighters who were operating in the area; accused of the killing.
