The speaker of Iran’s parliament, Ali Larijani, has denied claims Sudan requested Iran give assistance in establishing a nuclear reactor during a conference between member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Larijani, who had attended the conference, meanwhile met with his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Osman Taha, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. The Speaker also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to achieving nuclear capability “for peaceful purposes.” “Iran will respond firmly to any assault on its nuclear reactors,” he warned.
