Beirut – Georges Chahine
Gunmen in a 4x4 vehicle opened fire on a Hezbollah security checkpoint in a suburb south of the capital Beirut on Tuesday morning.
Security sources told Arab Today that Hezbollah fighters manning the base in the neighbourhood of Hay Farhat fired back at the attackers, shattering the back windscreen of their Infiniti SUV vehicle.
The checkpoint had been set up by the Lebanese Shiite militant group after Thursday\'s devastating car bomb attack which killed 30 people and wounded more than 300 in Ruwaiss, a southern suburb of Beirut.
Hezbollah members were inspecting vehicles for explosives amid fears of another car bomb attack.
Security has once again been intensified across the region after Tuesday morning\'s incident.
