Delegates from Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas have arrived in Egypt from the Gaza Strip, en route to meetings with Egyptian officials in Cairo, according to sources. Hamas representatives, in a delegation led by Ahmed Bahr, will meet with officials to discuss regional developments, but particularly the wavering truce between Israel and Hamas. Fourteen people, including Khalil el-Haya, have reportedly accompanied Bahr on the trip, taking a civilian vehicle from Rafah to Cairo on Wednesday. Tensions between Hamas and Israeli officials took a new turn on Tuesday when Israeli army chief Benny Gantz threatened to “resume…and even extend” military operations in the Gaza Strip. Hamas and al-Qassam Brigades spokesmen have dismissed the threats as mere psychological warfare.
