Gaza – Mohammed Habib
Gaza’s Interior Minister, Fathi Hammad, has reportedly closed cross-border tunnels between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, according to a Ministry source. The underground routes will remain out of operation for several days after tunnels collapsed following recent storms across the region.
The latest closure would ensure the safety of travellers and workers until weather conditions improved, the source told Arabstoday.
Security sources within the Gaza Strip reported on Sunday that three workers had been rescued after a tunnel collapsed in Rafah. The men were taken to the Abu Seif al-Najjar hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.
Security forces are still searching for two workers who went missing during subterranean flooding in last week’s unprecedented weather conditions, which swept the Middle East, killing dozens.
