Celebrations of the New Year in Tahrir Square, Cairo were cancelled after an activist suffered severed injuries in the vicinity on Monday morning. A debate ensued between demonstrators over whether a celebration should be held, while a number of demonstrators gathered around the injured protestors' blood. Meanwhile, dozens of people organised a silent candlelit vigil in front of the headquarters of the Press Syndicate, to commemorate victims of the Saints Church incident in Alexandria. They demanded retribution for the victims and that the perpetrators be held accountable.
