The Arab League has denied that its Secretary-General, Nabil Elaraby, has resigned from the post. On Tuesday evening, the pan-Arab organisation announced on its Twitter account that Elaraby had returned to Cairo from Geneva, after holding meetings with the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and officials of the United Nations Human Rights Office. The statement added that Elaraby is practising his usual functions as head of the Arab League. Rumours of Elaraby's resignation surfaced in Egyptian media on Monday evening.
