The Grand Imam of Azhar, Mohamed Ahmed el-Tayeb, has requested the summoning of the Israeli Ambassador to Egypt. The Grand Imam called on Egyptian Foreign Minister, Mohamed Kamel Amr, to invite the Israel Ambassador to discuss the deteriorating relations between Syria and Israel. El-Tayeb has condemned the increasing tension building between the two countries  He also pointed to the recent arrest of the Mufti of Jerusalem Mohammed Hussein, which he fears will provoke further unrest. The imam intends to negotiate for the release of the Mufti with the Israeli Ambassador. The leading Palestinian religious figure was arrested by Israeli police on Wednesday, who accused him of encouraging recent disturbances at religious sites in the city.
