Members of the Construction and Development Party (the political arm of the Islamist Jama'a al-Islamiya Islamic Group), have built a stage for the use of party members in Tahrir Square. This is in preparation for the Friday demonstration where demands for a new constitution implementing Sharia (Islamic Law) is to take place. “We have set up a stage for the party members and another one for media personnel covering the activities” one party member told Egyptian newspaper al-Masry al-Youm, adding “we tried to make it easy for them to place their equipment on the stage.” Members of the Tullab al-Sharia (Demanding Sharia) group, he continued, are “preparing wooden and iron beams in order to build a stage of their own outside the Tahrir Complex as well.” The source also said that Demanding Sharia and the Construction and Development Party stages will coordinate their activities in relation to to Friday prayer, chants and speeches by clerics and sheikhs.
