Dozens of Egyptian demonstrators have rallied in front of the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Cairo’s Nasr City, calling for the country’s military to return to power. Two scheduled marches will convene on the city’s Ittihadiya presidential palace and the Defence Ministry on Friday, demanding armed forces re-take power ahead of a civil transitional government. Prominent figures from the Egyptian political scene have joined the protests, including journalist Mustafa Bakry, television presenter Tawfik Okasha and former Supreme Court deputy Tahany el-Jebali. Political groups that are also participating include the Silent Majority Movement, the Coalition of Retired Military Officers and the Maspero Youth Union.
