Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has confirmed his “respect” for the judiciary during a speech marking International Workers’ Day.
Morsi claimed the independence of the judiciary was “not debatable.”
“All of us should respect the principle of a separation of powers,” he said.
The president also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to a recent cabinet reshuffle.
“Our first priority is the Egyptian citizen,” he added.
Some trade unions rejected Morsi’s involvement in May Day celebrations, claiming the move represents an attempt by the ruling Muslim Brotherhood to control them.
Workers celebrating the annual celebration of workers’ rights will celebrate in Tahrir Square throughout Wednesday.
