The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sternly addressed Yaakov Amitai, the Israeli ambassador to Cairo, regarding the reported mistreatment of Egyptian embassy staff in Tel Aviv. The ministry had received an official complaint from Mustafa Al-Koni, an Egyptian diplomat in Israel. In a press statement, foreign ministry spokesman Amr Roshdy affirmed: "The ministry summoned Amitai to face severe protestation against the ill-treatment of Egyptian embassy employees, who were on their way to participate in Easter Mass at the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem.” Roshdy reported that his ministry condemned recent Israeli raids on Syria, and Israeli aggression on the sovereignty of any Arab country, in conversation with the ambassador on Wednesday. The foreign ministry spokesman added that Egypt demanded the immediate release of Muhammed Hussein, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, after rebuking the cleric’s arrest by Israeli forces.
