Transport Minister Hisham Arafat revealed that developing the railways network nationwide costs 10 billion pounds.
Addressing a meeting of the parliament's transportation committee held to discuss Alexandria trains collision, Arafat said that the ministry seeks to implement a project that enables trains to stop automatically in case of emergencies at a cost of three billion pounds.
During the meeting that was chaired by Saeed Te'ema, Arafat added that there is another project that will cost two billion pounds to get electric railway signalling system.
As well, developing 560 railway crossings is considered at a cost of one billion pounds, Arafat further said.
The minister pointed out that the ministry is willing to carry out projects for upgrading the railway during the coming years that will cost 45 billion pound.
