Five people were killed and two injured when two cars collided in the Tunisian city of Kairouan  on Friday. One of the cars was Tunisian while the other was Libyan. Preliminary investigations suggest excessive speed and inattention were the main reasons for the accident, which took place on the second day of the Muslim celebration Eid al-Fitr. Tunisian traffic authorities called on drivers to keep to the rules of the road in order to protect the lives of people and their property. Official statistics show there have been 668 road traffic accidents in Tunisia in July alone, leading to 116 deaths and 1051 injuries.
