Cairo - Suhaib Yassin
Cairo-based Imam Sheikh Mazher Shaheen called on President Mohamed Morsi to represent all aspects of the Egyptian society in the constitution. The Omar Makram Mosque Imam asked the President to reconsider some of the decisions issued by the Constitutional Declaration and review the formation of the Constituent Assembly.
Shaheen explained that he previously supported the President’s decisions in order to bring criminals to justice, but he also condemned the “President’s hijack of the judiciary”.
Shaheen also urged judges not to suspend court cases in order to preserve the Egyptians’ interests. He also asked the judges to distance themselves from any political action as they have a duty of neutrality.
