Egypt's General Prosecutor has issued a warrant for the arrest of hardline Salafist preacher Ahmed Abdullah, also known as Abu Islam. Spokesman Mostafa Dewidar said the warrant was signed following investigations into a complaint accusing the preacher of contempt of religion. The complaint was filed by lawyer Naguib Gobrael, who attached a CD containing a number of television interviews with Abu Islam on the al-Ummah satellite channel. Gobrael claimed the content of the interviews represented a breach of the law against religious contempt. Islam is perhaps best known for burning a Bible outside Cairo’s US embassy during the September 11 protests against the controversial Innocence Of Muslims film.
