Algiers – Hocine Bousaleh
The funeral of an Algerian prisoner sentenced to death in an Iraqi jail was held on Friday.
Abdullah Bilhadi, 28, was executed on October 7 in Iraq. His body was transported by Iraqi authorities on Thursday.
The coffin was received by Algerian authorities with a note which read: \"To whom it may concern\".
He was convicted for his alleged involvement in a assassination plot - there was no proof of his culpability. He was also convicted of entering Iraq illegally.
Chairman of the human rights protection committee Farouq Qisnatini said implementing the execution order was unfair: “Justice in Iraq is non-existent,” he said.
Some of Bilhadi’s family members were there to receive the body. He was sent to Iraq in 2005 to help fight against the US invasion, only to be executed in the very country he tried to protect.
Bilhadi’s body was identified by his family members upon arrival.
