Six persons have died and 420 others have been wounded due to an earthquake that hit Algeria earlier Friday, said Health Minister Abdelmalek Boudiaf.
Two people died of heart attack and the others threw themselves from balconies of buildings, he said.
An emergency committee has been formed at the Ministry of Interior and Local Authorities to follow up developments in the Algerian capital.
