Amman - Iman Abu Kaoud
Two people have been killed during a raid by security forces in the Jordanian city of Maan, it has emerged today.
The Jordanian Directorate of Public Security officially confirmed the death of two suspected criminals, who were killed during a raid on a house in the Tur area of Maan on Monday. The men were apparently shot during a shoot-out when security forces tried to arrest a man suspected of murdering police officer, Ayman Mikdadi, who was killed in October 2012.
Rumours are circulating that the alleged criminal was also suspected of carrying out a burglary on the private mansion of an unnamed Gulf leader last week, although authorities have yet to confirm this.
According to a statement released by the Directorate of Public Security, police received a tip-off that the main suspect in the Ayman Mikadi murder case was living in house in the Tur neighbourhood, along with a group of armed militia. After surrounding the house, security forces exchanged gunfire with the armed group. The police eventually broke their way into the house to find two wounded suspects, who had been shot and were quickly taken to hospital.
Despite medical attention, the two gunmen, including the man suspected of killing Mikadi, died of their injuries.
Local media reports suggest that the men remain unidentified.
