A Yemeni court has sentenced ten Somalis after they were found guilty of piracy at sea. Yemen's official news agency said that a court specialising in terrorism cases, in the province of Hadramout (east Yemen) sentenced the men for 10 years each after the meeting in Mukalla. They were convicted of "piracy and hijacking vessels." The agency added that the judgement was issued pursuant to Articles 4 and 9 of the Kidnapping Crimes Act, and it will become effective from the date of arrest for those convicted. It explained that the men were charged with "criminal participation in kidnapping marine transportation, and preparing the necessary means: Kalashnikov, Rocket Propelled Grenade, ship, boat, and a ladder to ascend ships, in addition to wearing military uniforms."
