A team of medical experts from Italy is scheduled to arrive in the Kingdom this week to establish a field hospital for Syrian refugees in Mafraq Governorate, 80km northeast of the capital. The field hospital will be managed by the Royal Medical Services, according to an Italian embassy statement sent to The Jordan Times on Monday, “The field hospital is fully equipped with specialised diagnostic laboratories,” the statement said, adding that a surgery unit may be added in the future. The assistance is part of the recent collaboration agreement between Italy and Jordan as part of the Regional Humanitarian Working Group of the Friends of the Syrian People, in response to the “persistent deterioration” of the situation in the Kingdom’s northern neighbour, according to the statement. The aid is provided by the Office of Emergency of the Italian Cooperation for Development, in collaboration with Italian Civil Protection and the National Alpine Association, the embassy said. Last month, a flight carrying humanitarian aid donated by the Italian government for displaced Syrians and the local communities hosting them arrived in the Kingdom. The flight carried two kits containing emergency medical supplies sufficient to assist 20,000 people for three months.
