Eman Abdul Atti, also known as the world's heaviest woman, who was brought in to Burjeel Hospital in April, has had her first stage of treatment successfully completed.
Dr Yassin Elshahat, Chief Medical Officer, Burje Hospitalel , Abu Dhabi, issued a statement on Saturday afternoon about the progression in the health condition of Abdul Atti.
"With God's grace, the first stage of treatment which was adopted by the trading team, and which was expected to take three months, has been accomplished in one and a half month."
"This is mainly due to the close follow up of Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, who made everything available to ensure the success of managing Ms Eman and due to the huge efforts of the treating team," he added
He noted that by the end of the stage, she is able to use both hands to feed and take her medications, and is able to sit independently, adding that her bedsores are almost healed.
"The Nasogastric tube was removed after doing all the necessary tests, to allow her to taste all types of foods and to take her medication by mouth."
Dr Elshahat added that her voice has become clearer and she is able to speak full sentences.
"Her mood is significantly improves and she is communicating better with her social surroundings."
"She is following television programs and can manipulate the remote control."
The second stage of planned treatment will begin one week after End Al Fitr, which will include the same steps as the first stage, as well as multiple steps of surgery to reduce the weight, including liposuction and plastic surgery.
"Ms Eman is presenting her 'Eid Mubarak' greetings to the world and to the people who helped her through her treatment journey since she came to Abu Dhabi from India, especially the government of Abu Dhabi, Dr Shamsheer Vayalil and the staff at Burjeel Hospital."
