Algiers - APS
Director of vet services at Agriculture Ministry Karim Boughalem denied Sunday the existence of cases of transmission of foot-and-mouth disease to sheep, attributing the death of some sheep in the locality of Ouled Djellal (Biskra) to another pathology.
Boughalem told APS that about fifty heads of sheep died because of a poisoning and infections disease called enterotoxemia and due to the proliferation of a type of bacteria in the intestine of the sheep.
Specialized tests showed that the dead sheep were affected by enterotoxemia, he added.
