Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) yesterday announced that it will host the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital during Abu Dhabi Routes 2012, which is scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 2 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The converted DC-10 aircraft and the world’s only ophthalmic surgical and training hospital with wings will be on display and available for invited tours at Al Bateen Executive Airport. ORBIS is a non-profit, global development organisation whose mission is to decrease the rate of avoidable blindness in developing countries. ORBIS prevents and treats blindness by providing the tools, training, and technology necessary for local partners to develop their own capabilities in providing quality eye care services that are affordable, accessible and sustainable. Commenting on this initiative, Engineer Ahmad Al Haddabi, Chief Operating Officer at ADAC, said “As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, ADAC is committed to playing an active role in supporting such a global initiative to combat preventable blindness. ADAC will work alongside ORBIS to demonstrate its commitment to support communities and philanthropic goals, by creating awareness and exposure to the cause and its operations.” from gulfnews.com
