China has more than 330 million people with high blood pressure and one out of every three adults has hypertension, Professor Liu Lisheng, president of the World Hypertension League said. The prevalence rate for hypertension in Chinese men between the ages of 25 and 34 has surpassed 20 percent, Liu said, citing a report released by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Liu added that most people have poor awareness of the danger of high blood pressure, with about 130 million people unaware that they have the condition and 75 percent of hypertension patients not receiving proper treatment, according to China’s (Xinhua) News Agency. Liu said people should cultivate good habits to combat high blood pressure, including eating less salt, losing weight and quitting smoking. Li Yong, professor with Shanghai Huashan Hospital said that hypertension patients often have other illness conditions at the same time, such as diabetes, making the treatment more complicated.
