Prominent British historian Philip Mansell will deliver a lecture entitled: The Rise and Fall of Royal Alexandria - From Mohammed Ali to Farouk, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) on March 21. The event has been organised by the BA and the American University in Cairo (AUC). Mansell was born in London in 1951 and educated at Eton College, before he went on to study Modern History and Languages at Oxford\'s Balliol College The historian has written extensively about revolutionary and post-revolutionary France and the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire. some of his books include, Paris between Empires 1814-1852 (2001), The Eagle in Splendour: Napoleon I and His Court, Sultans in Splendour: The Last Years of the Ottoman World, and Levant: Splendour and Catastrophe on the Mediterranean.
