Russian figure skater Sofia Samodurova ranks third in women's singles after a short program at the Skate America event in the US city of Everett.

Samodurova, aged 16, earned 64.41 points. Japanese figure skater Satoko Miyahara is currently leading with 73.86 points, and another Japanese skater Kaori Sakamoro is in the second place with 71.29 points.

Another Russian figure skater in the competition, Polina Tsurskaya, is currently in the eighth place with 58.42 points.

Figure skaters will perform their free programs on Sunday.

Skate America is the first event in the 2018 ISU (International Skating Union) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.
