Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and King Mohammed VI.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas praised, on Monday in New York, HM King Mohammed VI's consistent stances in support of the Palestinian cause.

In a statement to the press following his meetings with minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, Abbas said that he had instructed Bourita to convey a message of appreciation and gratitude to HM the King, "a great leader, faithful to the policy of His father and grandfather with regard to the Palestinian cause".

"This is indeed the approach of His Majesty, the Moroccan government and people who always stand by the Palestinian cause," he added.

On his turn, Bourita said that the meeting was part of the ongoing dialogue between the Palestinian President and HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, on the Palestinian question, stressing that Morocco's position is a matter of principle.

The minister noted that such meetings are an opportunity to listen to and support the Palestinian position, particularly within the United Nations General Assembly with the friends and partners of the Kingdom of Morocco.

He stressed that the essential thing is that the Palestinian question be resolved within the framework of international legality, under the aegis of the United Nations, and in accordance with clear references, including the Arab Peace Initiative.
