UAE delegation participates in 44th Session of Committee on World Food Security in Rome

 Sager Nasser Al Raisi, UAE Permanent Representative to the international organisations of the UN in Rome, headed the UAE’s delegation participating in the 44th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS).

The session is being held at the headquarters of the FAO, a subsidiary of the United Nations, from 9th to 13th October.

Also in attendance are the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the heads of the three United Nations organisations, whose headquarters are in Rome (FAO, International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Programme), along with the representatives of the member countries and the countries monitored by the organisation and the various institutions concerned with food issues.

The meeting reviews the state of food security and nutrition in the world, especially in the areas of conflict, and a discussion on the current situation in South Sudan, Somalia, North East Nigeria and Yemen, all of which face the danger of famine. In addition to the efforts of the CFS to raise food security and improve nutrition in the context of the change in urban farm dynamics, they also demonstrated the effective experiments and methods in the field of sustainable nutrition policies.

The meeting, among other governance matters, aimed to achieve the best practices and to share the lessons learned from executing the sustainable development agenda 2030 to improve nutrition, besides empowering women in the context of food security, farm expansion and transformation, and discussing the repercussions of food security and nutrition in the long term.
