Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani and the US Army's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford today discussed the ongoing preparations for retaking the city of Mosul from ISIS group.
A statement of Kurdistan's presidency said that Barzani and Dunford held a meeting late Saturday night, during which they discussed preparations for the retaking Mosul, US assistance to Peshmerga forces and Iraqi army to fight ISIS.
According to the statement, General Dunford expressed support for the vision of Barzani about the future of Mosul after its liberation, pointing to the need for an agreement between the political parties and components of the city and for the protection of citizens in the entire province of Nineveh.
Iraqi joint operations command announced on March 24 the start of the first stage of the 'Operation Conquest' to retake Mosul from ISIS group, backed by the Iraqi air force and the international coalition.
