A capsule found in Russia\'s western Bryansk region and thought to contain the highly toxic nerve agent sarin is being tested, security officials said Monday.
Local officials said a group of Bryansk residents brought a capsule with \"Sarin\" inscribed on it to a local scrap metal recycling shop last week, RIA Novosti reported.
\"The item has been seized by police, the situation is under control,\" a spokesman for Bryansk regional security services said.
The spokesman would not discuss the capsule\'s original location. A chemical weapons destruction facility is near the town of Pochepa, where aviation chemical bombs filled with toxins such as sarin have been stored.
Sarin, a colorless, odorless liquid, is banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993.
