European Union Ambassador in Cairo Ivan Surkos expressed on Tuesday his organization's commitment to backing Egypt in the face of climate change.

Surkos' statements came in the inaugural conference of the climate week which is organized by EU delegation in Cairo in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment.

The European diplomat said the EU is financing climate projects in Egypt through grants worth 700 million euros, pointing out that such projects help factories and companies reduce air and water pollution.

He described Paris climate agreement as an important step towards a better future along with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda as the two have the ability to accelerate economic and social devolution the peoples need to maintain their common future. 

He also said the EU took part in financing the biggest wind farm in Gabal El Zite through a grant worth 30 million Euros.
