2 people killed, 9 others injured in suicide attack in Kabul

At least two people were killed and nine others wounded on Monday in a suicide attack that targeted a Defense Ministry bus in the heavily-fortified central capital Kabul of Afghanistan, said officials. A suicide bomber ploughed his explosives-rigged motorbike into the the Ministry's vehicle in the Cement Khana locality of the 16th police district, General Zahir Azimi, ministry spokesman, stated to reporters. Deputy spokesman of the ministry Dawlat Waziri also confirmed to reporters that all the dead and wounded were Afghan National Army (ANA) officers. The injured were evacuated to hospital and are said to be in stable condition, he added. The ANA commander, Gen. Qadam Shah Shaheen told reporters that "the ill-fated bus carried 20 people including seven ANA officers." Furthermore, Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday denounced the bombing as an inhuman and un-Islamic act. He claimed that Afghanistan's enemies would never succeed in busting the morale of its security forces. The attack came days after Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced a runoff presidential election across Afghanistan on June 14 to choose a successor to the President Karzai. The militants have paced up their activities as NATO/ISAF troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan till end of the year
