Mad Men star Elizabeth Moss appears topless and in overalls on the latest cover of New York Magazine. The actress posed for the playful shoot and discussed her character Peggy Olson in the publication's March 10 issue. Moss has portrayed Peggy since the show's first season, and has been nominated for an Emmy four times for her performance. Peggy's character has consistently evolved throughout the series. She started in season one as Don Draper's innocent but determined secretary, and has taken over his position as creative director by the end of season six. As her professional accomplishments increase, so does her persona -- from an ambitious and somewhat naive young woman to a sophisticated and powerful player well-versed in the corporate world. Moss spoke of the character's progression in her interview, "In the opening credits, my name is after Jon Hamm's, who stars as Draper, but when I did the pilot I was not necessarily in that position. I'm number four on the call sheet. But [show creator] Matt [Weiner] put me second in the credits. I guess he knew what was going to happen." The actress acknowledged that Peggy is "the one we relate to, the one that's us" on the show. The character's success has made her a feminist icon, and Moss said people often tell her that Peggy inspired them to change jobs. Moss seems prepared for life after Mad Men, as the series comes to a close with a two-part final season. The actress has already taken part in several different projects, including a miniseries, Top of the Lake, and two short films, The One I Love and Listen Up Philip. She starred in the latter opposite Jason Schwartzman. The future is still undecided, but Moss has evolved as an actress along with Peggy. Moss recently joked at work with her colleagues, "Do you remember when I used to come in and bring you [expletive]holes drinks and leave and that was my job?" The first part of Mad Men's seventh season debuts on Sunday, April 13 at 10 p.m. EDT, and the latest edition of New York Magazine hit newsstands today.
