Late American actor Peter Falk, best known for his portrayal of disheveled police detective Columbo in the long-running television series of the same name, was honored with a star on Hollywood's "Walk of Fame." Falk was awarded the star in 1991 but did not get around to arranging an installation ceremony before his death in June 2011 at the age of 83. Falk's star was unveiled on Hollywood Boulevard Thursday next to that of his friend Joe Mantegna, who paid tribute to the late actor. "The only way we could have gotten him here would have been to tell him it was to do extensive rehearsals for it," Mantegna joked. "They can walk down this boulevard and glance down and be able to say, `Hey, I know that actor. He's the one that made me laugh, made me cry. Made me think.' "The star is not for you, Peter. It's for them, your fans." While Falk was best known for his role as Columbo, he also enjoyed a successful film career, earning two Oscar nominations in 1960 and 1961.
