Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt wrote each other love letters while they were working on projects in opposite sides of the world last year.
"We decided to be of that time when we could imagine he was in the European theatre and I was in the Pacific theater" the Oscar-winning actress told TV Week of the time she relocated to Australia to direct Unbroken and Pitt was in England shooting Fury.
"We wrote hand-written letters to each other that were very connecting for us, thinking of the people that were separated for months if not years at a time back then," she continued.
Unbroken is the cinematic adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand's best-selling book of the same name and tells the story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II. The film is Jolie's sophomore directorial venture.
Pitt's Fury also takes place during WWII and tells the story of a five-man crew sent to complete a mission behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany. The actor co-stars along Logan Lerman and Shia LaBeouf in the David Ayer drama.
Fury will be released November 14 and Unbroken will follow on Christmas Day.
