
Danny Wells, the actor best known for playing Luigi on the "Super Mario Brothers" and Charlie the bartender in "The Jeffersons," has died in his native Canada. Wells was 72, The Hollywood Reporter said. He died Nov. 28 in Toronto, but his death only became public this week. During a 40-year career, Wells worked in dozens of television shows and movies in the United States and Canada. His earliest credit listed on the entertainment website IMDB is "Love American Style" in 1972 and the latest an episode of the Canadian television show "Rookie Blue" this year. He also did a lot of voice work. In "Super Mario Brothers," based on the popular video game, Wells played Luigi as a live-action character and voiced the character in the cartoon segments. Wells was born Jack Westelman in Montreal.
