In order to allow businesses to construct, understand and protect their Intellectual Property agreements, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) organised an intensive one-day drafting IP agreements workshop at the Chamber head office recently. The workshop, which was conducted by Paul C Jorgensen from The Jorgensen Law Firm PLLC, was attended by a group of businessmen, IP owners, lawyers and interested parties from the legal field. The workshop focused on the constructing methods including the rules that help in drafting excellent IP agreements, its preparations as well as the ways to avoid common IP agreement problems. Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services Department, Dubai Chamber, stated that the objective behind the organisation of the workshop is to educate all parties concerned about how to make the best use and benefit from different types of IP agreements. She further stated that the workshop helped Dubai Chamber members, lawyers, legal consultants, investors, contract administrators, IP owners and SME representatives to understand the drafting of clear and precise agreements which will assist them to avoid future disputes while providing them insights into their entitlement to different rights as per the agreement. Acknowledging the importance of intellectual property as a tool to stimulating growth and innovation, Kazim said that intellectual property supports the growth of the economy and developing the regulations that are associated with intellectual property is one of the key drivers of growth and prosperity. She informed that the workshop was organised as part of Dubai Chamber’s strategic objective to support the development of business by identifying the best business practices to enhance stakeholders’ performance and competitiveness as well as to serve the business community boost trade and contribute to the economic growth of Dubai. The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) consolidated their bilateral trade ties through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the conclusion of the Dubai Chamber Trade Mission visit to the Indian city of Surat, which lasted from April 17 to 20, 2012. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, who led the delegation of 11 Dubai businessmen, and Rohit Mehta, President, Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, signed the MoU which emphasised on promoting bilateral trade between the cities of Dubai and Surat, especially in diamond and textile businesses. Besides consolidating economic relations between Dubai and Surat, the agreement sets the framework for the development of joint ventures and technology transfers and investment, exchange of trade enquiries and delegations.
