US Senate passes $1 trillion spending bill

The US Senate approved a deal Saturday to avoid a federal shutdown, voting for a spending bill worth roughly $1 trillion to fund the government through fiscal year 2012. Senators voted 67 to 32 to approve the massive bill, which after approval Friday by the House of Representatives now goes to President Barack Obama's desk for his signature.
