Abu Dhabi - WAM
With job creation and strengthened Emiratization among its core strategies, Emirates Global Aluminium ("EGA") - the jointly-owned, UAE-based aluminium conglomerate to be formed by Mubadala Development Corporation and Investment Corporation of Dubai through the integration of Emirates Aluminium ("EMAL") and Dubai Aluminium ("DUBAL") - will attend the Tawdheef 2014 career fair, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 3 to 5 February. The company's active participation at the event reflects EGA's commitment to increasing its proportional Emiratization (currently around 18 per cent across EMAL and DUBAL) by recruiting over 100 UAE Nationals during the course of this year. No newcomer to the event, EMAL has attended the annual Tawdheef career fairs since 2009 (i.e. this is the sixth consecutive year) and has received a positive response: over 1,600 applicants were received at Tawdheef 2012 and 300 UAE Nationals were recruited through Tawdheef 2013. Built in two phases, EMAL created 2,000 jobs during Phase I and another 1,000 jobs in Phase II. At present, EMAL is seeking 100 Emiratis in 2014 to fill technical positions at its Phase II expansion, which began production in September 2013. Supervisory level positions will also be available within EGA and its operating subsidiaries for UAE Nationals with university degrees, who through a15- to18 month graduate training programme, will be equipped to hold management positions within the company. In addition to EMAL and DUBAL, EGA will own Guinea Alumina Corporation ("GAC"), a project to develop an alumina refinery and associated bauxite mine. EGA will also own a stake in Cameroon Alumina Limited ("CAL"), a joint-venture project to develop a bauxite mine and alumina refinery. Direct employment is currently provided to approximately 7,200 people, across EMAL and DUBAL. EGA's expansion plans, locally and across the world, are expected to create an additional 2,000 direct jobs by 2020. EGA's goal to increase the proportion of UAE Nationals within its ranks will be achieved by leveraging the successful National Development Programmes in place at DUBAL and EMAL, whereby young UAE National talent is pro-actively recruited and retained through training, succession planning and professional development. For example, pre-employment courses ("PECs") are offered for UAE National school-leavers, which prepare trainees for non-supervisory positions such as utility operators, technicians and assistant technicians across all EGA's smelter operations. Scholarship programmes are also in place, enabling UAE National students to attend recognised UAE universities and colleges. Dynamic career opportunities are offered in diverse areas of expertise, giving UAE Nationals abundant personal choices across the full employment spectrum. Emiratization will be a key component of EGA's efforts to maximise its impact on the social and economic development of the UAE. Already a major contributor to the strategic diversification of the UAE economy, EMAL and DUBAL have demonstrated that a highly qualified and skilled Emirati workforce is essential to the future success of both companies and the nation. Accordingly, effective and continuous development, superb career opportunities and high growth of human capital will be fundamental aspects of EGA's efforts to recruit and retain UAE Nationals.
