Train service set to resume from Cairo to upper Egypt

Egyptian authorities said passenger train service from Cairo to upper Egypt was almost set to resume after being halted in mid-August. Hussein Zakaria, head of Egypt's Railway Authority, told Ahram Online that regular service to six upper Egypt governorates would resume Monday. "Starting Monday, 14 trains will be operating daily to cover the governorates of Beni Sueif, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Luxor and Aswan, back and forth," Zakaria said. Train service to upper Egypt from Cairo was halted amid widespread unrest following the violence dispersal of pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo and Giza. Authorities shut down all train service in and out of Cairo after the violence. Since then, 56 of a total of 188 services between Cairo and nationwide destinations have been resumed.
