Several top business entrepreneurs in the UAE on Wednesday received the Mohammed Bin Rashid Business Award, for their excellence business performance and contribution to the country’s national economy.
The award is held every year under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It aims to showcase and honour the success of companies and organisations who have contributed to economical growth within the Emirates.
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of the Executive Council presented the awards to the winning companies. The colourful ceremony was also attended by the UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Panel of Judges of the Award, Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori along with Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and other top government dignitaries at the Madinat Jumeira.
The Minister noted that the award succeeded in instilling a culture of institutional excellence as it recognises outstanding business endeavours in the country.
It allows a wider section of companies and institutions to compete in the award and emerge winners, said the Minister. To be a winner, an organisation must have a sustainable performance system that ensures progressive performance, he added.
Al Mansoori emphasised that in the fast-paced business scenario excellence has no limits and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award honours institutional performance and helps create a competitive business environment in the country.
Fourteen UAE-based companies received 15 awards including the Most Outstanding Performance award for their excellence in institutional performance.
In order to boost competitiveness, the award selected winners and best performance in each category.
“The award also goes on to establish the competitiveness of Dubai’s business community in the region and the world over while also reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a diversified economy,” said Al Ghurair.
Union National Bank (UNB) has won the prestigious Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award for 2011 in the finance category for the second time, having earlier received this honour for the 2008 cycle. The Award was presented by Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to UNB CEO Mohammad Nasr Abdeen.
Abdeen also emphasised that UNB’s notable achievements in the field of best practices and quality as well as its business growth wouldn’t have been possible without the visionary guidance and continuous support of Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan UNB Chairman and UNB board members and UNB’s family, customers and shareholders loyalty, creating a successful partnership leading to more accomplishments.

Dubai Refreshments swooped two Mohammed Bin Rashid Business Awards in the Industry Division and for the most outstanding performance across all business categories for 2012.
The beverage company won the award for the Industrial Division, as well as a second award for the most outstanding performance across all business categories, for the 6th year running.
Ahmed Bin Issa Al Serkal, Chairman of DRC said after the event that the company is honoured to receive such a prestigious award.
Also to win the accolade was the leader in construction, building materials and shop fitting industries, Danube company. Danube won this year’s coveted Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Awards.
The Award has empowered many organisations to meet international standards to achieve outstanding business performance.
It also assists participating organisations gain exceptional experience through self-analysis where they benefit from other participants’ experiences in business performance.
