Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi told a jury in federal court in Boston he helped James "Whitey" Bulger kill and bury his girlfriend in 1981. Flemmi said Friday he loved Debra Davis but agreed with Bulger, a longtime Boston mob boss, that she had to go because she knew they were trading information for protection with Boston FBI agents, The Boston Globe reported. Davis, 26, was lured to a house Flemmi had recently bought for his mother, strangled by Bulger and then buried near the Neponset River in Quincy, just outside Boston, the 79-year-old former hitman said. "It's going to affect me until the day I die," Flemmi said. Flemmi, who began his testimony Thursday, described aiding Bulger in many killings as well as loansharking, bookmaking and extortion. After the jury was out of the courtroom Thursday, Flemmi and Bulger had a brief and unfriendly exchange. Flemmi called his former boss an obscenity and Bulger responded, although his words were not audible. Bulger, 83, was arrested in 2011 in Santa Monica, Calif., where he had been living for many years under an assumed name with his girlfriend, Catherine Greig.
