Steel production in Iran hit 4.645 million tons in the first quarter of current Iranian calendar year of 1390 (started on March 21), registering 16.3 Percent increase compared to the figure for the corresponding period last year. Steel production up by 16% in 4 months Head of Iran’s Mineral Industries and Mines Development and Renovation Organization, Masoud Samiei-Nejad, reportedly put the rate of steel production in the past four months at 3.994 million tons. Stating that private sector had an active role in steel production in the period, the official further noted that the private companies had a share of about 392,000 tons in the unprocessed steel production during the past four months, a figure indicating 60 percent rise compared to the figure in the same period the year before. Production of steel products reached 5.731 million tons, registering 12 percent rise compared to the figure in similar period last year, Samiei-Nejad said. Mobarakeh Steel Company tops the list with an output of two million tons, he said.
