
Spain's industrial production rose by 0.4 percent in May compared with the same month in 2013, official figures indicated on Monday.
According to the Index of Industrial Production (IPI) published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), production of consumer goods increased by 0.4 percent in May in comparison with the same month in 2013.
Production of durable goods, such as cars, fell by 6.1 percent in May in comparison with the same month in 2013. Production of non-durable goods, such as food, increased by 0.9 percent while that of intermediate goods, used to produce final goods, increased by 0.9 percent.
Production of capital goods fell by 0.8 percent in May when compared with a year earlier and production of energy increased by 1.3 percent.
The INE said that on a month-to-month basis the country's industrial production fell by 0.7 percent from April to May.
Production of durable consumer goods fell by 3.3 percent on a month-to-month basis, production of capital goods decreased by 2.5 percent while production of intermediate goods fell by 0.6 percent from April to May.
Production of energy and non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.3 percent and by 0.1 percent respectively, the INE said.
Spain's industrial production was seriously affected by the country's financial crisis. Spain left economic recession behind in the third quarter in 2013 when it grew by 0.1 percent. The government expects to consolidate this growth and forecasted a 1.2 percent growth for 2014.
