Opening of Russian trade mission’s office in Ho Shi Minh

A Russian trade mission’s office opened in Ho Shi Minh, southern Vietnam, on August 23. “The opening of the trade mission’s office in Ho Shi Minh will give a new impetus to development of trade and economic relations between Russia and Vietnam. The office will become the headquarters to coordinate the activities of Russian companies operating in southern Vietnam,” Russian Deputy Economic Development Minister Alexei Likhachev told Itar-Tass. “Southern Vietnam plays a vital role in trade and Russian-Vietnamese investment interaction,” he said. “Deliveries from southern Vietnam account for more than 60 percent of all Vietnamese exports to Russia,” the deputy minister said. The office will also supervise other activities such as the operation of Russian companies in Vietnam’s south and tourism. “The office will promote bilateral cooperation in the tourism business. One of its tasks is to establish partnership relations between Russian and Vietnamese tourist companies,” he said. According to Likhachev, the ministry carries out a whole range of initiatives aimed at expansion of trade and economic presence not only in Vietnam, but also in other Asian states and in Central America. Most foreign trade partners react enthusiastically to Russia’s proposals to open new offices in their countries.
